Swimming Pool is the name of a creamy-sweet cocktail based on white rum and vodka. By combining rum with coconut and pineapple juice, it belongs to the group of coladas and is closely related to the popular Piña Colada. In contrast to this, part of the white rum is replaced by vodka and a shot of Blue Curaçao (blue orange liqueur) is added, which gives the drink the turquoise-blue color of a swimming pool and thus its name. Another famous cocktail of Schumann is the Flying Kangaroo.

20 ml/ ⅔ oz. vodka
20 ml/ ⅔ oz. coconut syrup

The short drink varies the classic basic structure of a sour (spirit + citrus juice + sugar) by replacing the sugar (syrup) with Cointreau, an orange liqueur. Then shake the last three ingredients (the sex part) with ice.
Strain into glass to sit on top oft he beach base layer.

Serve with a stirrer and instukt drinker to mix layers before drinking.
NOTES
Since the cranberry nectar was previously difficult to obtain outside of the USA, for example in Germany, there are now many preparation options under the popular name Sex on the Beach. These contain other juices, syrups, liqueurs and sometimes even other basic spirits such as tequila. Often the orange juice is completely or partially replaced by pineapple juice.

The cocktail, named for the crust of sugar on the rim, was invented by Joseph Santini, a bartender in New Orleans at his bar, Jewel of the South. Jerry Thomas was the first to publish the recipe in his 1862 cocktail manual.

A special feature is a wide sugar rim on the glass, the eponymous crust, and a long, wide-cut spiral made of lemon or orange peel that is placed in the glass.
