Irish Mule Cocktail Recipe

How to make the Irish Mule cocktail

The Irish Mule cocktail is a whiskey-based spin on the Moscow mule, a classic cocktail invented in the 1940’s. When it was first invented, this drink may have been a ploy to sell vodka, ginger beer and copper mugs. The mule is part of a family of cocktails called bucks: drinks made with ginger beer or ale, citrus juice, and liquor. So a Moscow mule is a vodka buck, and an Irish mule is a whiskey buck!

INGREDIENTS

  • 60 ml/ 2 oz. Irish whiskey
  • 15 ml/ ½ oz. lime juice, freshly squeezed
  • 180 ml/ 6 oz. Ginger Beer
  • lime wedges

METHOD

  1. Squeeze lime juice into a Moscow Mule mug (or a Collins glass) and drop in the spent shell.
  2. Add 2 or 3 ice cubes, then pour in the Irish whiskey and fill with cold ginger beer (not ginger ale, although what the hell).
  3. Garnish with a mint sprig.

NOTES

And here are my recipes of Moscow Mule and a special X-mas mule recipe.

Godfather Cocktail Recipe

Godfather Cocktail

The Godfather cocktail is a 1970s-era drink, named for the popular film “The Godfather” and it is often made with equal parts of Whiskey and Amaretto, but my version dials down the sweetness. And I take instead of Scotch whiskey a smoky Whisky from Ireland, because it tastes better in my opinion. INGREDIENTS 60 ml/ […]
