BIJOU COCKTAIL Recipe

The Bijou cocktail (French for jewel) is an alcoholic cocktail made from Gin, red Vermouth, Green Chartreuse and orange bitters. It is a short drink and is served in a cocktail glass. The Bijou cocktail was first documented to have been prepared in the late 19th century, a time when the use of vermouth in cocktails was becoming increasingly popular

INGREDIENTS

  • 30 ml/ 1 oz. Gin
  • 30 ml/ 1 oz. Green Chartreuse
  • 30 ml/ 1 oz. Martini Rosso sweet Vermouth
  • 1 dash of Orange bitters by Angostura

METHOD

  1. Pour all ingredients into mixing glass with ice cubes and stir well.
  2. Strain into chilled Martini glass.
  3. Garnish with an lemon zest twist.

NOTES

Fun fact, “bijou” is French for “jewel”. Gin is diamond, Green Chartreuse is emerald, and sweet Vermouth is ruby.
