Swimming Pool Cocktail Recipe

SWIMMING POOL COCKTAIL Recipe

Swimming Pool is the name of a creamy-sweet cocktail based on white rum and vodka. By combining rum with coconut and pineapple juice, it belongs to the group of coladas and is closely related to the popular Piña Colada. In contrast to this, part of the white rum is replaced by vodka and a shot of Blue Curaçao (blue orange liqueur) is added, which gives the drink the turquoise-blue color of a swimming pool and thus its name. Another famous cocktail of Schumann is the Flying Kangaroo.

INGREDIENTS

  • 40 ml / 1 ⅓ oz. white Rum
  • 20 ml/ ⅔  oz. vodka
  • 20 ml/ ⅔  oz. coconut syrup
  • 10 ml/ ⅓ oz. cream
  • 40 ml/ 1 ⅓ oz. pineapple juice
  • 10 mll/ ⅓ oz. Blue Curaçao

METHOD

  1. Fill the cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients, except for the Blue Curaçao.
  3. Shake and strain into fancy glass filled with crshed ice.
  4. Top with Blue Curaçao liqueur.
  5. Garnish with a piece of pineapple and a cherry.

NOTES

The “swimmingpool” – originally written in one word and actually not a cocktail in the classic sense, but a so-called fancy drink – was created in 1979 in Munich’s Schumann’s Bar and was first published in 1984 by its operator, the bartender Charles Schumann.
